Jhuma Das: a scientist with a heart of an artist.

I believe every one of us is a beautiful embodiment of our complex, myriad layers of colors, depths and shades. Each of us holds an untapped mine of creativity within ourselves. So be bold - unleash yourself to the fullest and do so unapologetically. That is undoubtedly the best gift you could give to yourself and to this universe. My hope is that my art will speak to you and inspire you to chase and live your wildest dreams, recognize your unseen potential and express your inner beauty  to the world.

Hello, welcome to my corner of the universe! So while I dedicate my long days with utmost focus and diligence to medical biophysics research, my life is incomplete without art. I have been an artist and a dancer all of my life. Without art, my heart feels empty and dry, my identity butchered. My dedication in science and my love for the arts stem from my passion for contributing positively to the human experience.

The Renaissance was full of people who realized every facet of themselves: DiVinci, Botecelli, Michelangelo. DiVinci was a painter, sculptor, engineer, biologist to name a few. I connect with these people. The first time I danced, choreographed a dance routine or held a color pencil in my hand - I felt alive. I was able to break free of societal norms and experience endless beauty, and creativity. Dance and art gave me the ability to express myself, whenever words weren't enough. My genuine love for unique expressions led me to train in two forms of classical Indian dances (Kathak, Odissi), Latin dances (Salsa, Rumba and Pachanga) and Fine arts training in India alongside my formal education.

My detail oriented, analytical scientific mind is of immense value to my creative pursuits and my art fuels my scientific journey. Without one, the other feels disconnected. My art is part of my identity. The days I feel complete chaos, and claustrophobia, shackled by the "normal", I paint and dance to feel free. The days I feel calm, I paint to hone in on that energy. I am here to express my soul's beauty unapologetically. I love experimenting and pushing boundaries - it is a window to my versatility. I do not wish to be labeled as "just one type" - I am equally passionate about painting florals, nature, abstract, cosmic/scientific phenomena and mixed media.
